Palm Sunday

    The Collect of the Day

Sunday of the Passion: Palm Sunday

Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

1The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, *the world and all who dwell therein.

2For it is he who founded it upon the seas *and made it firm upon the rivers of the deep.

3“Who can ascend the hill of the Lord? *and who can stand in his holy place?”

4“Those who have clean hands and a pure heart, *who have not pledged themselves to falsehood, nor sworn by what is a fraud.

5They shall receive a blessing from the Lord *and a just reward from the God of their salvation.”

6Such is the generation of those who seek him, *of those who seek your face, O God of Jacob.

7Lift up your heads, O gates; lift them high, O everlasting doors; *and the King of glory shall come in.

8“Who is this King of glory?” *“The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle.”

9Lift up your heads, O gates; lift them high, O everlasting doors; *and the King of glory shall come in.

10“Who is he, this King of glory?” *“The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory.”

1Ascribe to the Lord, you gods, *ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.

2Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his Name; *worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

3The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders; *the Lord is upon the mighty waters.

4The voice of the Lord is a powerful voice; *the voice of the Lord is a voice of splendor.

    5The voice of the Lord breaks the cedar trees; *the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon;

6He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, *and Mount Hermon like a young wild ox.

7The voice of the Lord splits the flames of fire; the voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; *the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

8The voice of the Lord makes the oak trees writhe *and strips the forests bare.

9And in the temple of the Lord *all are crying, “Glory!”

10The Lord sits enthroned above the flood; *the Lord sits enthroned as King for evermore.

11The Lord shall give strength to his people; *the Lord shall give his people the blessing of peace.

    Zech. 9:9-12

9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter Jerusalem! Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10 He will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall command peace to the nations; his dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. 11 As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. 12 Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double.

    Zech. 12:9-11,13:1,7-9

9 And on that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 10 And I will pour out a spirit of compassion and supplication on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that, when they look on the one whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn. 11 On that day the mourning in Jerusalem will be as great as the mourning for Hadad-rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. 1 On that day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity. 7 “Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, against the man who is my associate,” says the Lord of hosts. Strike the shepherd, that the sheep may be scattered; I will turn my hand against the little ones. 8 In the whole land, says the Lord, two-thirds shall be cut off and perish, and one-third shall be left alive. 9 And I will put this third into the fire, refine them as one refines silver, and test them as gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, “They are my people”; and they will say, “The Lord is our God.”

    Luke 19:41-48

41 As he came near and saw the city, he wept over it, 42 saying, “If you, even you, had only recognized on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43 Indeed, the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up ramparts around you and surround you, and hem you in on every side. 44 They will crush you to the ground, you and your children within you, and they will not leave within you one stone upon another; because you did not recognize the time of your visitation from God.” 45 Then he entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling things there; 46 and he said, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer’; but you have made it a den of robbers.” 47 Every day he was teaching in the temple. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people kept looking for a way to kill him; 48 but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were spellbound by what they heard.

    1 Tim. 6:12-16

12 Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life, to which you were called and for which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 In the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you 14 to keep the commandment without spot or blame until the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which he will bring about at the right time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords. 16 It is he alone who has immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see; to him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.
